Cabinet Refacing Inexpensive and Easy

by Kirk Bangstad
Refacing Cabinet Columnist

Kitchen cabinet refacing is a wonderful way to make your kitchen look new without spending a fortune. This project is also one that you can attempt partially on your own. Remember, however, that hiring a professional can save money in the long run if you don't really know what you are doing.

Use a Tack Cloth

Many people forget to wipe away the dust from their cabinets before attempting a cabinet refacing. If you have too much dust on your cabinet surfaces, the veneer won't stick properly. A tack cloth is a piece of material with a sticky substance on it that helps wipe away dust. Make sure you invest in a few before starting your cabinet refacing project.

Add some flare to your Kitchen Cabinet Refacing Project

It's very easy to simply apply a new veneer to your kitchen cabinets, put on some finishing touches, and call it a day. Unfortunately, this idea may leave your cabinets looking a bit bland. Part of a good cabinet refacing job is adding your own special touch. Look for a nice trim to put around your cabinets, or a set of fancy cabinet handles. This extra effort will impress your guests and make your kitchen more vibrant.

Leave your Cabinet Refacing moldings to the Pros

If you add any moldings to your refaced cabinets, you will probably need a miter saw to make the needed cuts. Using a miter saw takes some skills, and most people don't have them readily available. Instead of buying one and learning how to use it, you can probably save time and money by hiring a professional.
