Unlike Other Home Improvements, Cabinet Refacing is a good DIY project

Do it yourself home improvement projects have become the rage as of late, gaining momentum due to home improvement t.v. shows and programs sponsored by Home Depot. Alan Heavens, a home improvement columnist and t.v. personality recently published a book warning people not to take on DIY projects that are too big for them. He warns again large plumbing projects, for example, and suggests smaller projects such as kitchen cabinet refacing.
Make Sure You know what You're Doing
Unfortunately, when you decided to start a home improvement project, there is a good chance that you'll make a few mistakes along the way. Many people embrace these challenges as good learning experiences. Some do-it-yourselfers, however, wind up with horror stories and thinner wallets. Alan Heavens, the well-known home improvement guru, recently wrote a book about what to look out for before starting a do-it-yourself project.
Pick Easy Projects Like Cabinet Refacing
His main point throughout the book is to take on projects that are manageable and ones that don't require a lot of expertise. If you start a project without knowing what you're doing, you may wind up hurting your home more than helping it, which can often cost a lot of money to fix. Fortunately, however, there are a lot of home improvement projects in which some of the work can be done by amateurs. One of these is a do it yourself cabinet refacing project.
Do It Yourself Cabinet Refacing
Cabinet refacing is simply the process of adding a new veneer to the face of your cabinets to give them a new and fresh appearance. Much of the prep work for a cabinet refacing project can be done by amateurs, although it is advisable for pros to put on the finishing touches. Because the cost of cabinet refacing is so low, many people opt to do this instead of buy new kitchen cabinets.
