Home Improvements to Make a Splash

by H.L. Staples

In order to keep your home's kitchen hygienic, you need to have a proper backsplash. Cleanliness doesn't have to be predictable. With a bit of imagination in your home improvement project, you can create a signature backsplash that keeps your cooking space clear of stains and that wows your guests.

Be Atypical When Remodeling Your Backsplash

The typical kitchen backsplash is tile placed on the wall above your countertop, specifically over the sink and stove. But even if you want to remodel for a minimalist look, you needn't forego innovation. A backsplash can add style and flair to your kitchen.

Surprising Backsplash Remodeling Ideas

If you want a kitchen with personality, consider some of these backsplash ideas, several of which have been taken from HGTV:

  • Custom Tile Mural: Find an artist who paints tiles and install a one-of-a-kind mural.
  • Magnetic: Give the fridge door a bit of help holding up the mementos. Remodel your backsplash with a magnetic roll.
  • Pressed Tin: Remodeling with pressed tin is less expensive than tile and easier to install. If you really want a signature home improvement, find an artist who works in tin and purchase it with a unique pattern.
  • Recycled Aluminum: For an eco-friendly home, whenever possible try using recycled materials for remodeling. If you're not a crafty person, you might be able to contract an artist for the job.
  • China Mosaic: Here's an excuse to pick up antique china at yard sales. The beautiful patterns can make a unique backsplash that will be a conversation piece for years to come.

Whatever backsplash choice you make, consider how easy the surface will be to clean. Choose glossy, nonporous materials. When you think of remodeling your kitchen, be sure not to overlook the imaginative possibilities for your backsplash. You might even come up with an innovative backsplash idea of your own!
