Home Remodel: Flooring

by AJ Fanter

If you're getting ready for a remodel, chances are that you will need to replace or refinish your flooring. Before you begin your home remodel project, it is important to know both the pros and cons of a variety of flooring styles so you can make the best choice based on your lifestyle.

If you haven't yet chosen which flooring will best suit your new home remodel, here is a review of hardwood, laminate, and ceramic flooring options so you can see which will be the ideal choice for your remodel.

Choosing Hardwood Flooring for Your Home Remodel

Are you planning to live in your home for a long time? If the answer is yes, investing in hardwood flooring can make a great deal of sense. Not only does hardwood grow "richer" looking as it ages, it is also exceptionally long lasting, making it a worthwhile long-term investment. While hardwood flooring is relatively easy to care for, it's not a great choice for bathrooms or other areas that experience a lot of moisture. In addition, if you have dogs or heavy traffic you'll need to watch out for scratches.

Laminate Flooring Remodel

Laminate flooring is affordable, long lasting, and easy to install. But unlike hardwood, it cannot be refinished and thus will not bring you as much return on your investment as if you had done your home remodel with hardwood. However, if you have kids or pets and want the look of hardwood without the high cost, then laminate is an excellent alternative.

Remodel with Ceramic

While ceramic tile is versatile, durable, exceptionally low maintenance, and will virtually last forever, it can be expensive and difficult to install. However, while ceramic is not very forgiving and can feel colder to the touch than other flooring surfaces, it is an extremely good investment.

As you can see, no matter what type of home remodel you are planning there is an ideal flooring choice for you.
