Built-in shelves can add warmth and character to your home by providing you with a display area for books as well as other beautiful objects. By remodeling to add built-in shelves, you can create extra space for storage. But you needn't limit your plans to the merely functional. You can also add an aesthetic improvement to any room by featuring ceramics, sculpture, photographs, or highly individual collections such as bells, salt and pepper shakers, or thimbles. Of course, you might also put some lovely books up there. Home Improvement With ShelvingTake a look around your home. Which area could most use a visual improvement? Built-ins can be designed to fit into odd nooks and out of the way places, making the most of your living space. Consider the area around your fireplace, doors, and windows. If you don't have a room beneath your stairs, you might install a built-in bookcase there. If you want to divide a room into two distinct areas, built-in shelving could work major remodeling magic. If you're not sure just where you could put them, ask your contractor to make suggestions. When you remodel to add shelving, you can include focused lighting to feature special pieces. You might install electrical outlets and pull-out trays for an entertainment center. Lockable drawers and doors can help protect valuables. If you decide to include shelving as your next home improvement project, be sure you consider the various remodeling options available. Sources About the Author H. L.
