Black Kitchen Cabinets for a Neutral Palate
By Leslie A.M.RefacingCabinet.com Columnist
Basic black--it is chic, classic, and regal. Black kitchen cabinets bring sophistication to your kitchen in an unexpected way. They can look so elegant yet understated, many people won't even realize you have black kitchen cabinets. Black cabinets just show off your hardware, your beautiful countertop, and artwork on the walls. The eye always goes toward the details, and black kitchen cabinets are a great way to show off those details.
Discount Kitchen Cabinets
Even the most inexpensive kitchen cabinets look very rich when painted black. The only requirement after resurfacing and finishing them with black is to keep up the finish. If you spot any chips, touch them up with paint so the cabinets don't look speckled.
Staining Kitchen Cabinets
One way to avoid the maintenance of chipping paint is by staining your kitchen cabinets black. There are several stain types available. Simply apply the stain with a brush or cloth, or in some cases spray applications are available. Depending on how dark you want it, you may need to apply more than one coat of ebony stain.
Stain can only be applied to wood--not veneers or metal cabinets. Staining oak cabinets is usually a very successful do-it-yourself project. Oak takes stain easily and looks great when it sets. Test a small portion of the inside of one cabinet to see how it looks. Sand the wood first to remove any finish that might repel the stain, and wipe it clean with a tack cloth.
After staining, apply a top coat to protect the finish and voila! Your kitchen cabinets are dressed to impress.
