Remodeling Kitchen Cabinets With What You Have

Imagine your kitchen without cabinets. You gain about two feet of floor space each direction. Take that empty room that is suddenly larger than it was and map out a new way to place your cabinets.

Even Inexpensive Kitchen Cabinets

One of the great advantages of all kitchen cabinets is that they are self-contained. They have a back so they are still functional when they are moved away from the wall. Cabinets lined up back to back can make an island. Inexpensive kitchen cabinets often have different materials for the boxes than they do for the fronts. Be aware of that so you don't expose some really unattractive backs or sides in your plans. Even with nice cabinets the backs might be something less than the fronts.

Kitchen Counter Necessary for Topless Kitchen Cabinets

One thing kitchen cabinets do not have are tops. The kitchen counter serves as the top. Don't forget that before you pursue a kitchen tune up. If you reconfigure your cabinets, you will need new kitchen counters.

Kitchen Renovations Without Demolition

If you want to embark on remodeling kitchen cabinets with your existing cabinets, you need to be very careful when deconstructing your kitchen. You don't want to have to rebuild your cabinets--that will defeat the green kitchen cabinets' sustainability points. Also, don't forget what's overhead. Many of your upper cabinets will be floating over the floor when you remove the lower cabinets. Factor in where you want a completely blank wall and plan on remodeling kitchen cabinets to their full extent.

Remodeling kitchen cabinets using the materials you have is a green alternative to your kitchen renovations. Though it seems practical, think through the entire project before you begin. A new kitchen counter, new flooring and cabinet repairs might be one of the bigger kitchen renovations instead of a smaller one.
