Cabinet Refacers: Measure Twice, Cut Once
By Leslie A.M.RefacingCabinet.com Columnist
When you are refacing your cabinets to make them look brand new, you might decide to hire professional cabinet refacers. Like any general contractors that you hire you'll want to make sure they measure up. Take time to compare three bids with references. Comparing them in the following ways may save you a great deal of time down the road.
Comparing Cabinet Refacers
1. Cost--This alone is not an indication of whom you should choose. The least expensive bid is just that, the least expensive and nothing more. Double-check the figures on the lowest bid to be sure there isn't a major omission.
2. Time Expected to Complete the Project--The quickest is not always the best. If one set of cabinet refacers is doubling or tripling the labor to get it done sooner, then that makes sense. This might not appear on the bids--you might have to ask. If all three bids have the same number of laborers but one is extremely short or extremely long, you have to wonder.
3. Apples to Oranges--Make sure cabinet refacers bid on doing the same thing. You don't want to sign on the dotted line only to find out that what you really wanted is several hundred dollars more.
4. Referrals--Along with the bid, ask for referrals. You'll get a better sense for what is included in the bids when you talk to their satisfied customers.
Cabinet Refacers As Miracle Workers
What really makes a difference in a kitchen is the detail work. Including some improvements that go beyond resurfacing kitchen cabinets allows you to see how good your kitchen can be. Crown molding, detailed miter work, and so on can take your ordinary kitchen to extraordinary.
Once you've measured all factors, choose the cabinet refacers that are right for you and enjoy the transformation.
