How to Seal Granite Tile Kitchen Countertops
When water soaks into the stone and does not bead, your granite tile kitchen countertops need to be resealed. You should do this every year, but if you use a sealant that lasts longer, you likely can do it every two to three years. All local hardware stores sell products for sealing granite tile kitchen countertops. Purchase a sealer that is made especially for granite countertops. Remove all items from the countertops to create completely open spaces. Then, using a sponge or a dry rag, clean the countertops. If desired, you also may use a special cleaner or dishwashing soap to clean the area properly. Spray the countertops with the cleanser and let them sit for about 30 seconds before scrubbing them clean with a sponge. Dry the areas with a clean, dry towel.
Apply the sealer to the countertops with a piece of cloth or with any type of brush, and allow it to stay that way for a few minutes. Wait until the sealer is almost dry, and then apply another coat to the granite. Rub the second coat into the granite countertop with a clean cloth. Allow it to dry for a few hours. Depending on the brand of sealer that you are using, drying time can take as long as three or four hours.
Apply the sealer a third time to the entire surface of your granite tile kitchen countertops. Allow the counters to dry thoroughly before you start using them again.
Repeat this entire process once every one to possibly three years depending upon the sealer you use, to keep your granite tile kitchen countertops in excellent condition.
