Keep it Tidy with Bathroom Design

When bathrooms are done right, they feel like little retreats. Close the door, and you're in a clean, serene space where you can freshen yourself up again for the world. When they're done wrong, they're cluttered, messy rooms you want to get in and out of as fast as possible before you get hopelessly tangled in the cords of misplaced curling irons and blow dryers.

You can blame your sloppy nature all you want, but if your bathroom is perpetually messy, maybe it's time to start blaming your bathroom design. The right set up will go a long way toward keeping your bathroom clean and clutter free. Let these bathroom design tips help you on your way to a bathroom you'll be happy to visit.

Tip #1 -- Think Storage

When it comes to the beast that is a disheveled bathroom, inadequate storage is its heart and soul. Take care of storage, and the beast doesn't stand a fighting chance. Pedestal sinks are lovely, but under-sink storage is even lovelier. A nice flat mirror may seem chic, but a mirror you can store toiletries behind will serve you better. When in doubt, overestimate the storage space you'll need.

Tip #2 -- Stop Fighting Losing Battles

If trying to get your spouse, your kids, or even yourself to neatly fold up towels and return them to the rack is a constant battle, it's time to throw in the towel (get it?) Screw a few hooks to the walls, and it'll be easy to hang up towels and robes. If you can't remember to put the shower curtain inside the tub and can't handle wading through a mini-lake on the floor after every shower, install a shower with a goof-proof door. Whatever battle you're fighting, new tactics beat new resolutions every time.

Sometimes excuses aren't excuses, sometimes they're reasons. If your bathroom can't seem to get its act together, there's probably a reason, and a little bathroom redesign may be just the answer.
