Laminate Floor Maintenance
Caring for your Laminate Floor
The moment your laminate floor is in place, it is ready for constant traffic.
Laminate flooring is scratch and dent resistant. Most laminate flooring manufacturers offer “touch up” kits just in case, which can include acrylic or latex putty, wax pencils or crayons.
Maintenance and cleaning:
- For general upkeep, wipe with a damp cloth, dust mop, or use the hard floor setting on your vacuum cleaner.
- For more thorough cleaning, you can use a mild laminate floor cleaner or a mixture of 1 cup vinegar to 1 gallon warm water.
- Laminate floors are stain-resistant, but if a stain does appear, dab nail polish remover or denatured alcohol on a soft cloth and apply to the stain gently.
- Resist the temptation to use oil soap, detergent, or wax-based products, as they will leave a cloudy, unattractive residue.
Protection:
- Use felt floor protectors on all furniture.
- Replace plastic casters on chairs with rubber wheels.
- Do not drag heavy objects across the floor.
