Custom Cabinet Doors: A Unique Solution to Your Old Kitchen
By Leslie A.M.RefacingCabinet.com Columnist
If you want to give your kitchen some real pizzazz, then start thinking about custom cabinet doors. Replacement kitchen cabinet doors do not have to be limited to traditional choices. Maple kitchen cabinets can look great with custom cabinet doors that compliment the wood without being the same material.
Staining Kitchen Cabinets
One technique for creating custom cabinet doors, is staining them a darker color than the existing boxes. Of course, you are not limited to shades of wood tones. Forest green stain with light maple or pine boxes can give your kitchen a distinct shaker look. Or a black stain can change the look completely. 'Custom' just means it is altered somehow. It does not dictate that a conservative decorative approach must be taken.
Green Kitchen Cabinets
Imagine reusing a barn door for your kitchen cabinets? What about using old metal screens in place of glass kitchen cabinets? Custom kitchen cabinets can be downright funky if you so choose. If you want a cleaner look, reuse kitchen cabinet doors from an old restaurant or use furniture traditionally used in other rooms in your kitchen. A dresser with an antique finish is a great place to keep table linens, and you might just have one waiting for you in your garage or you can pick one up at next week's neighborhood garage sale.
Inexpensive Kitchen Cabinets
You do not have to spend a lot of money to enjoy custom cabinet doors. If your finish is achieved with paint, then cut down some plywood and add trim molding to create the custom kitchen look you want. Use an ornate trim for a fun baroque look on an island's cabinet doors.
The best thing you can do to your kitchen, is make it your own.
