Cleaning Kitchen Cabinets
Your kitchen cabinets are relatively new, but are beginning to show signs of grime build-up. How can you effectively clean your kitchen cabinet doors and countertops without harming the finishes?
First Line of Attack on Greasy Kitchen Cabinets
You should be able to conquer most kitchen dirt by using an all-purpose kitchen cleaner, but read the label to see if the manufacturer recommends use on the type of surface you need to clean. Once you have the right cleaning product, follow these steps for gleaming kitchen cabinets:
- Use clean cloths and warm water to wash the soiled kitchen cabinet surfaces.
- Dump the used water and get a fresh cloth to rinse off the surfaces after you are done.
- Drying with paper towels can help to reduce streaking.
When You Need to Get Tough on Kitchen Cabinet Dirt
The worst areas for kitchen grime build-up are around and under the handles and kitchen cabinet hardware fixtures. To beat this dirt, consider removing the kitchen cabinet doors. This will allow you to use a stronger solution and soak the handles and hardware. With the kitchen cabinet doors off, take them outside or to a well-ventilated space and try a dab of paint thinner on a soft cloth. Always test the solvent on the back of the door to be sure it will not damage the finish.
With the handles and hardware out of the way, you'll make the job much easier and the troublesome spot should be rubbed out quickly. Be sure to use a clean, dry cloth to wipe any residue of the solvent from the cabinet surface. The strong cleanser might cause the kitchen cabinet finish to appear dull. If so, apply a wood polish and buff to a nice lustrous shine.
Now that your kitchen cabinets are back to their full glory, try to maintain that sparkling look and feel by cleaning the kitchen cabinet doors and countertop regularly.
