Perhaps the most fun you can have remodeling kitchen cabinets is selecting your hardware. You can always tell a custom kitchen by these attractive accents. With so many options, you're bound to find a style that suits your tastes.

Custom Kitchen Finishes
Traditional versus contemporary is the conundrum. Options include antique copper; polished chrome; polished sterling, or antique brass; nickel; aged bronze; and iron. If you can't decide, go with a blended style.

Knobs and Pulls
The choices here are endless. The traditional and contemporary tags go right out the window as custom kitchen knobs and pulls feature characteristics of both. Size is one of the primary considerations.

Backplates
The backplate rests between the drawer surface and the knob or pull. It protects the cabinet surface, covers existing holes and enhances the decorative hardware. Backplates typically match the adjacent knob or pull.

Cabinet Hinges
Use the manufacturer's hinge card for a precision fit. Mortise hinges feature permanent installation with a space cut out in the cabinet door and frame for proper fit. Non-mortise hinges simply fasten with screws.

Frameless Cabinet Hinges
Remodeling kitchen cabinets with frameless kitchen hinges can be appealing. The European hinge is easy to install and can handle the weight of heavier cabinet doors. The European overlay hinge is restricted to frameless cabinet doors with half-overlay doors.

Cabinet Door Catches
Magnetic catches are the most widely used and open and close with a gentle push. Spring roller touch catches close when the rollers hook on the strike plate. Friction catches use a spring friction mechanism, similar to a spring roller.

You're local home and garden center often offers a wide selection of custom kitchen hardware, as well as expert advice on how to make your picks count in the "heart of the home."
